Around 1997/98 or so I took a lead and invited amateur astronomers from Pune, India to joing me in observing and studying Leonid Meteor shower that was to peak on November 17, 97. None of us know how to go about observing meteor shower – scientifically.

We met every second satruday at IUCAA and discussed various topics related to observations of meteor shower.
We had met for a specific purpose. It was a very succesfull work. But the peak intesity we started looking at other aspects of observational astronomy.
In march 2001 we took and expedition to observe and occulations of a star by an asteroid – while returinging we discussed if we can form another independent group – name flashed in my mind Sky Watchers Association of Pune – to be short formed as SWAP.
We picked that name up.
